Here, a salt desert of more than 10,000 km² turns, after the rain, into the largest mirror on Earth — the sky beneath your feet, the horizon erased. A few hours down the track, blood-red and turquoise lagoons host thousands of flamingos at 4,500 metres, between steaming geysers and perfectly shaped volcanoes. Further south, the ochre canyons of Tupiza feel like the Wild West; to the north, Lake Titicaca spreads its sacred waters around Isla del Sol, birthplace of the world according to the Incas. And in between: Potosí, whose silver veins once financed an empire; Sucre, the white city; La Paz, the vertiginous capital where cable cars glide over Aymara markets.

Who we are
Terra Alta was born from a simple conviction: southern Bolivia deserves better than assembly-line tourism.
Before founding the agency, we spent more than fifteen years in Bolivian tourism and hospitality — welcoming travellers from all over the world, listening every evening to their stories of the day: what had amazed them, what had disappointed them, what they wished they had known before leaving. Fifteen years of learning, guest by guest, what turns a good trip into an unforgettable one.
Terra Alta is the sum of all that: a young agency, but not a beginner. A new generation of Bolivian operators — closer, more flexible, more respectful — backed by very real experience of the terrain and of travellers.

How we travel
A Terra Alta departure is an itinerary built in the right order: altitude acclimatisation first (you don’t climb to 4,800 m on day one), the highlights placed at the right hours — sunrise over the salt, golden late afternoon on the canyons — and room for the unexpected: a village market, a herd of llamas, an invitation to share a hot api.
It is also a certain idea of respect: for the communities we pass through, for fragile natural sites, and for you — no overloaded schedule that turns the journey into a race.
Our commitment: travel should give back
We believe tourism only makes sense when it benefits the land that makes it possible. That is why part of the profits from every booking will go to projects with indigenous communities and local associations of the altiplano:

When to visit Bolivia
Good news: Bolivia is a year-round destination — each season has its own face.
- December to March (rainy season): this is the time of the famous mirror effect on the Uyuni Salt Flat. A thin film of water covers the salt and reflects the sky to infinity — the most surreal photos are taken in these months.
- May to October (dry season): deep blue skies, white salt cracked into hexagons, every track of Sud Lípez accessible. Nights are very cold at altitude (sometimes −15 °C in July), but it is the most stable season.
- April and November: the in-between — fewer people, and often the best of both worlds.
