Terms 2026.
1. Scope
These terms govern the use of the website terraaltabolivia.com and bookings of tours and services with Terra Alta S.R.L. (NIT 708893027), “Terra Alta”. If a tour page states a specific condition, that condition prevails for that tour. By booking or making the first payment, you accept these terms.
2. Requests, booking and payment
Payment schedule. The total price is paid in four payments:
- When you book: 30% of the total, that is 15% as a booking payment (arras, non-refundable) and 15% as a deposit.
- 30 days before departure: a second deposit of 20%.
- 7 days before departure: the remaining 50%.
Dates and times are Bolivian time (UTC-4).
Late booking. If you book 15 days or less before departure, you pay 100% of the total when you book and it is non-refundable (section 5). If you book after the due date of one of the earlier payments, that payment is made when you book. These rules apply to all tours, including those in the Salar de Uyuni and Sud Lípez.
Missing payment. If we do not receive a payment by its due date, the booking is cancelled automatically and we understand that you no longer wish to take part in the tour. The amounts already paid are governed by section 5.
The booking is confirmed when Terra Alta receives the first payment and confirms it to you in writing (email or WhatsApp). You can pay in foreign currency with Libélula, RedEnlace and Revolut, or by bank card, QR code or bank transfer. Group departures can also be paid on the WeTravel platform. Payment providers may charge transaction fees.
Availability and quote. The availability of services is only guaranteed once Terra Alta receives the first payment (or the full payment, for a booking made 15 days or less before departure) and confirms your booking in writing. An answer about availability or a quote does not reserve any place. A quote is valid for 15 days from its issue date; after that, prices and availability may change and we may issue a new one.
3. Prices
Prices are in US dollars (USD) per person, based on a group of 6 people, in shared service.
Number of participants. If the group is smaller than the group of 6 people on which the published prices are calculated, the price may differ from the published or agreed price. We will tell you in writing the price that applies before charging any difference.
4. Services not included
Each tour page details what is included and what is not. Unless stated otherwise, the following are not included: travel insurance, tips, personal expenses, flights and transfers not mentioned on the tour page, and entrance fees to protected areas, which are paid on site in cash. Amounts in bolivianos are indicative and may change.
5. Cancellation and date changes
If you cancel, this rule applies according to the number of days left before departure:
- More than 45 days: 100% of the deposit (15%) is refunded, less bank fees for the money transfer. The booking payment (arras) is not refunded.
- From 45 to 31 days: 50% of the deposit (15%) is retained; this corresponds to the pre-payment of some services such as lodging, transfers and/or others.
- From 30 to 8 days: 100% of what you paid (booking payment and deposits) is retained.
- From 7 days to 24 hours: everything you paid is retained and nothing is refunded.
- Less than 24 hours, and no-show: the full price of the tour is due.
Dates and times. All dates and times in these terms are Bolivian time (UTC-4). Payment, cancellation and date change deadlines are counted according to that time.
Arriving late at the meeting point. The meeting time and place are confirmed in writing (email or WhatsApp), and it is your responsibility to be there at that time and keep your phone reachable. The vehicle and the group leave at the planned time and do not wait. If you are not at the meeting point when the vehicle has to leave, it counts as a no-show, as noted by the guide or the driver, and there is no refund. If you are running late, tell us right away on WhatsApp. This rule does not apply if the mistake is in the time or place confirmed by Terra Alta.
Date change. A tour can possibly be rescheduled to other dates, depending on the availability of the company. This also depends on our providers, their own sales conditions and their availability, because sums are already committed for the tour. A date change requires a new quote: the price is that of the new date. Sums already paid to providers (for example hotel nights) are not refundable and must be paid again. The part of your payment that has not been spent on services is credited to the new quote. A date change is not possible less than 8 days before departure. If rescheduling is not possible, the cancellation rules above apply.
If Terra Alta cancels or postpones. If Terra Alta cancels or postpones the trip (for example for safety reasons or an external event, section 6), you choose between a new date at no extra cost or a refund of everything you paid, through the same payment method. We keep only costs already paid to providers that cannot be recovered, and we show you the proof on request. A change of programme, such as the flooded salt flat described in section 6, is not a cancellation by Terra Alta.
How refunds are made. When a refund is due under these terms, it is made through the same payment method you used. How long the money takes to reach your account also depends on the payment provider or the bank.
6. External events, blockades, weather and force majeure
If an external event makes the tour unsafe or disturbs the normal operation of the country, for example a storm, heavy snowfall or another dangerous natural event, political or social unrest, blockades, a road closure, a fuel shortage or a decision by an authority, Terra Alta may modify, postpone or cancel the trip to protect travellers. We will offer you the best available alternative. If the trip is cancelled or postponed, what section 5 provides for a cancellation by Terra Alta applies. Force majeure means any unforeseeable or unavoidable event beyond Terra Alta’s control.
Flooded salt flat. Between December and April, roughly, rain can cover the Salar de Uyuni in whole or in part with a thin layer of water and create the famous mirror effect. A flooded salt flat is not a reason to cancel, neither for you nor for Terra Alta: the tour goes ahead with the adapted itinerary the guide proposes, with safety as the priority. Some visits may change (for example, Incahuasi Island may not be reachable) and no refund is due for the visits that are changed or replaced. The dates are indicative: what counts is the real state of the salt flat on the day of the service, as noted by the guide. Rain and a flooded salt flat are not an external event within the meaning of the previous paragraph.
7. Health, safety and traveller obligations
Many tours go above 3,600 m and some reach about 5,000 m. Each tour page states the maximum altitude, the minimum age and the contraindications. You must tell us about any relevant health condition, follow the guide’s instructions and carry valid travel documents (passport, visa and required vaccinations are your responsibility). We check that your passport is valid and that your stay respects the days allowed by your visa: if these requirements are not met, Terra Alta cannot guarantee that the services will be delivered. If symptoms of altitude sickness appear, the guide may decide to descend for your safety (the costs fall under section 8). See a doctor before the trip: Terra Alta does not provide a medical service and you acknowledge the risks of altitude and remote areas.
Accuracy of your details. You are responsible for making sure the information you give us is accurate and complete. Names must match your passport exactly. If they do not match, Terra Alta and its providers may refuse to provide the service. Terra Alta is not responsible for the consequences of inaccurate or incomplete information given to it and, in that case, there is no refund.
Conduct during the trip. You must follow the instructions of the guide and the driver and respect the other travellers and the local communities. The guide may remove from the tour, without a refund, anyone whose conduct endangers their own safety, the group’s or that of others, for example through alcohol consumption. The decision is made on the spot, because the group cannot wait.
8. Insurance, luggage and third-party transport
Terra Alta does not include any insurance. Travel insurance with medical assistance, evacuation and repatriation at altitude is mandatory. If you do not have it, you must sign a liability waiver before the tour; refusing to sign it amounts to a cancellation on your part, with no refund.
Medical and evacuation costs. Medical, emergency care, transfer, evacuation, hospital and repatriation costs are at your expense (or your travel insurer’s), even when the decision to descend or evacuate you is taken by the guide for your safety. This does not limit the liability the law places on Terra Alta for its own fault (section 9).
Luggage and personal belongings are your responsibility: Terra Alta is not responsible for their loss, theft or damage, unless the law provides otherwise or Terra Alta is at fault. Terra Alta is also not responsible for flights or other third-party transport: if they change or are delayed, the costs are yours, so we recommend travel insurance that covers them.
9. Liability
Terra Alta organises the services with local providers and is responsible for their proper performance under Bolivian law. It is not liable for events beyond its control, acts of third parties or the risks inherent to mountain and high-altitude activities that the traveller accepts when booking. Nothing in these terms limits rights that the law does not allow to be excluded, including those of consumers.
10. Complaints
If something does not go as expected, tell the guide during the trip so we can fix it on the spot. Afterwards, you can write to us at hola@terraaltabolivia.com as soon as possible after the tour, with your name, the tour date and a description of the problem.
11. Minors
Each tour page states the minimum age. Minors must travel with a responsible adult.
12. Use of the website
We do our best to keep the information on the site accurate and up to date, but it may change without notice and we do not guarantee that the site is always available or error-free. The texts, photographs, logos and marks belong to Terra Alta or are used with permission: you may not copy them or use them commercially without prior permission. Do not use the site unlawfully or to harm its operation. The site links to third-party services that we do not control.
13. Personal data and cookies
How we handle your data is explained in the privacy policy and the use of cookies in the cookie policy.
14. Acceptance
You are deemed to accept these terms when you book, make the first payment or confirm your booking in writing (email or WhatsApp). Acceptance by electronic means is fully valid.
15. Dispute resolution and governing law
We will try to resolve any disagreement amicably by writing to hola@terraaltabolivia.com. If that is not possible, the law of the Plurinational State of Bolivia applies and the Bolivian courts have jurisdiction, without prejudice to the mandatory rights that the law of your country of residence gives you as a consumer.
16. Languages
These terms are published in Spanish, English and French. In case of discrepancy, the Spanish version prevails.
